Our Centre Philosophy
At The Cat’s Pyjamas Preschool & Nursery, children and families are at the heart of everything that we do. We strive to provide excellent care and education for young children and a supportive environment for parents and whānau.
Our aim is to build a passion for a lifetime of learning in every unique person. We believe teacher and child-initiated activities are equally important for a child’s development. Our philosophy acknowledges that children will teach themselves and will drive their own learning given a rich, positive environment, supportive interactions with adults and the choice to plan and do things.
We believe that children learn and develop in an early childhood environment where the teacher has a respectful image of children as being competent and capable young people. The teacher’s role is a co-researcher and co-constructor in the learning process, which allows children to explore, question, reflect, problem solve, theorise and encourages self-expression.
We value the reciprocal relationships that we have with parents and whānau and welcome their participation in their child’s learning journey.
